Exhibition Crystal Dreams - June-July 2021

John Moran, Anja Segers and Mariken Dumon

John Moran, American-Belgian artist, started in 2016 “Gent Glas”, an open workshop and glass studio where (inter)national artists are working together. Every Friday night the public is welcome and can have a drink in glasses blown in the studio. Glass is his main medium, but John also creates mixed media work. “The first thing that drew me to glass was the teamwork needed to make a piece”, he says in an interview with Natalia Joruk for in “Beautifulbizarre”. He studied fine arts in Illinois (USA) and got a doctorate of philosophy at the academy of Wroclaw (Poland). His sculptures were shown in exhibitions in the USA and Europe, more specifically in Belgium. His work is represented in the spectacular international glass collection in The “Glazen Huis” in Lommel (Belgium).
John Moran finds his inspiration in society and more specific in criticizing religious and politic indoctrinations, next to the abusive consumerism. He does so in using idols of popular culture, read American popular culture, hence the Micky Mouse sculptures, or icons of Western History of Art. All his sculptures come in a bizarre way, threatening, a bit scarry and humoristic at the same time. One has to decipher different layers.
